Airport Metal Detectors: Necessary For Your Safety

Airport security has become harsher than ever. When you go to board a plane, you have to take your shoes off, you must not carry any liquids in anything more than a three ounce container and you must pass through a metal detector. Airport metal detectors have been around for a long time and are likely going to remain a staple of airport security. The airport metal detectors are designed to detect even minute amounts of metal. They are generally in place to detect weapons, something you absolutely cannot bring on an airplane for many reasons. Some people don't like having to walk through metal detectors, especially airport metal detectors; because they say it's an invasion of their privacy but they have to realize that the detectors are in place to protect them from harm.

Take Everything Out Of Your Pockets

When you pass through airport metal detectors, you are usually given a bin in which you are to place all of your possessions. You are to empty your pockets of all items including cell phones, keys, change and more. The airport metal detectors are very sensitive and will pick up even minuscule traces of metal so it's important that you remove anything on your person that could potentially set the detector off.

If, after removing all of your items, you still happen to set the airport metal detector off, you may be required to undergo further testing. Typically, an airport security worker will use a hand airport metal detector. This is a wand-like device that can determine where the metal is registering. Sometimes, you may be required to undergo a pat down or other type of search. This is only after the airport metal detectors have shown that you have metal on your person. The intensive searches would take way more time than is necessary to search every person, which means that most people would miss their flights if everyone had to undergo this type of search. That's why airport metal detectors are important. They can scan many people in a quick manner, making thorough searches necessary for only a select few.

The airport metal detectors are there for your own safety so you should embrace them as a necessary form of security. To pass through them is quick and painless and doesn't require any work on your part. You simply pass through it and then you are free to go on your way.
